A Trip to Seoul and a Week of Shipping
Last week the AWS Developer Experience team visited Seoul to meet with leaders from AWSKRUG, the largest cloud developer community in Korea, which runs 20 topic-based meetup groups hosting more than 100 events a year, mostly in Seoul. The conversations were candid: leaders shared what had worked well in the first half of the year, what hadn't, and what they wanted from AWS going forward. It's the kind of feedback loop that shapes the roadmap more than any internal planning meeting could.
The Feature That Stood Out: One-Click Lambda Agent Setup
Of everything that shipped this week, one small addition stood out most: a one-click setup prompt that configures a coding agent with AWS Serverless skills and the Serverless MCP server baked in from the start. The prompt references an agent setup guide with install commands for Claude Code, Kiro, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Devin Desktop, and OpenCode, so picking up serverless best practices no longer means hunting through separate docs for each tool.
Other Announcements Worth Knowing
- OpenAI models arrive on Bedrock. A new family spanning three capability tiers, flagship reasoning (Sol), balanced performance (Terra), and fast, cost-efficient inference (Luna), is now accessible through the Responses API on Amazon Bedrock's next-generation inference engine.
- Cheaper cold storage, sooner. Objects can now transition to S3 Standard-Infrequent Access and S3 One Zone-Infrequent Access starting the day they're created, removing the previous 30-day minimum retention window. That's up to 40% lower storage costs for backups, log analytics, and compliance data that goes cold within hours or days.
- Self-managed Lambda code storage. Functions can now reference source code directly from a customer's own S3 buckets, skipping the intermediate copy step Lambda used to create and cutting activation time after updates.
- Password hash imports for user pools. CSV user imports now accept existing password hashes, so migrated users can sign in immediately instead of being forced through a password reset on first login.

This week also marked twenty years since Amazon SQS launched, and the team published a retrospective on the milestones since. Elsewhere, a piece on open AI protocols, MCP, A2A, UTCP, AG-UI, and x402, uses the Strands Agents SDK to show how these standards interact in practice, and a new DynamoDB bulk operations feature lets teams run large-scale table-wide commands without writing custom code.
A Note on Last Weekend's Billing Issue
Some customers received inaccurate budget and cost anomaly alerts over the weekend, along with inflated estimated cost and usage figures. The issue has since been resolved and all services are operating normally. AWS says a full retrospective is underway to prevent a repeat and to improve incident response going forward.
