The Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise is getting a fourth chapter, and the core creative team that delivered the last two blockbusters is circling back. Producer Bhushan Kumar has begun developing ideas for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4, and director Anees Bazmee is in advanced talks to return alongside Kartik Aaryan, who will reprise his role as Rooh Baba, according to sources close to the production.
"Bhushan Kumar is keen to make this the biggest franchise in India, and he has already started gathering the core idea for the fourth installment. Kartik is also part of the creative process to crack the best possible plot," a source told Bollywood Hungama.
The franchise has a spotless track record at the box office. The first film, released in 2007 with Akshay Kumar in the lead and Priyadarshan directing, became a cult favorite. Bazmee took over for the second and third installments, both starring Kartik Aaryan, and each delivered strong commercial returns. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3 collectively cemented the series as Hindi cinema's most reliable horror-comedy property.
Bazmee is currently directing Akshay Kumar in another project and is expected to dive into the creative development of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4 immediately after. The monetary discussions between the director and the production house are being ironed out, but the expectation on both sides is that the deal will close.
The makers are targeting the second half of 2027 to begin filming, which would give Bazmee and the writing team roughly a year to shape the script. For Aaryan, the film extends one of his most bankable screen personas. Rooh Baba has become closely identified with the actor, and another outing in the role would reinforce his standing as a franchise-leading star.
If the deal goes through as expected, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4 will be one of the biggest Bollywood titles on the 2028 release calendar, arriving at a moment when horror-comedy is enjoying renewed audience interest across multiple Indian languages.
