While plenty of newer venture firms are still struggling to raise fresh capital, Dimension Capital has kept moving in the opposite direction. The New York firm, which invests specifically at the intersection of science and compute, announced an $800 million third fund this week, sixty percent larger than the vehicle it raised just eighteen months earlier.
Dimension was founded roughly four years ago by Zavian Dar and Adam Goulburn, both formerly partners at Lux Capital, alongside Nan Li, an alum of Obvious Ventures. Their founding bet was that founders would increasingly want to build deep-tech companies straddling the line between biotech and software, rather than treating the two as separate industries with separate investor pools. Four years in, the three partners say they've been surprised by how quickly that thesis has actually played out in practice.
The firm's track record backs up the timing. In 2024, Dimension co-led a 3.8 billion valuation. Dimension also backed anti-aging startup New Limit, co-founded by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, at its Series A round in January 2025, and New Limit closed a Series C earlier this month at a $3.1 billion valuation.
The firm's portfolio also includes inference company Modal Labs and a direct stake in Anthropic itself, acquired somewhat indirectly: Dimension received shares in Anthropic after Anthropic acquired one of Dimension's own portfolio companies, drug discovery platform Coefficient Bio, this spring in a deal reported to be worth a substantial sum.
The pattern across these bets says something about where serious capital is currently flowing in AI. Rather than chasing another general-purpose foundation model company, Dimension has concentrated on the specific point where compute-heavy AI techniques meet genuinely hard scientific problems, drug discovery, cellular biology, longevity research, areas where a strong model alone isn't sufficient without deep domain expertise sitting alongside it. That combination has proven attractive enough to institutional investors that the firm has now raised three funds of increasing size in quick succession, even as the broader venture fundraising environment has cooled for firms without a similarly distinctive thesis.
With $800 million in fresh capital, Dimension is positioned to write larger checks into an area of AI investing that has, so far, mostly avoided the valuation volatility hitting some corners of the generative AI market, likely because the underlying science still takes years to validate regardless of how fast the surrounding AI tooling improves.
