The announcement builds on a busy year for Vids. Google says users have already created millions of videos on the platform, and in February 2026 the company opened up Veo 3.1 to all users, giving everyone access to AI video generation inside the app.

How Gemini Omni Changes the Editing Process

Gemini Omni is designed to collapse the distance between an idea and a finished clip. Users type what they want in natural language, optionally upload a photo or rough sketch as a visual reference, and Omni produces a video that attempts to match the description. The system supports iterative refinement, meaning users can prompt follow-up edits, swap backgrounds, adjust lighting, or add effects without rebuilding the project from scratch.

Access is currently restricted to users aged 18 and older in select regions. What This Means for the Broader Video Landscape

Google's moves sit within a larger arms race. OpenAI's Sora, Runway, and Pika Labs have all been racing to make text-to-video generation faster and more controllable. What distinguishes Google's approach is integration. Vids lives inside Google Workspace, which means the generated clips can flow directly into Docs, Slides, Gmail, and Drive without export headaches. For enterprise teams already paying for Workspace, that frictionless pipeline is a real advantage over standalone creative tools.

The risk, as always, is homogenization. When everyone uses the same AI models trained on similar data, video content can start to look and sound the same. Google's answer is the avatar feature, which at least introduces individual likeness back into the equation. Whether that is enough to preserve creative diversity remains an open question.

Gemini Omni and personal avatars are live now in Google Vids for eligible users. Personal avatars are region-locked and age-gated, so not every Workspace subscriber will see the option immediately. Google is directing users to check their eligibility inside the app.
