OpenAI has launched the ChatGPT for small business program, a dedicated initiative aimed at helping small and medium businesses adopt AI tools to increase productivity and scale operations. The program includes virtual training sessions, in-person AI academies, new educational content, and integrations with popular business tools.
The core offering is hands-on virtual training through product-specific webinars that demonstrate how small businesses can use ChatGPT Work in daily operations. The sessions cover use cases in accounting, marketing, e-commerce, and other common workflows, with attendees receiving actionable prompts and automation templates they can implement immediately. Partner webinars and Q&A sessions with companies like Dropbox, Shopify, Intuit, Slack, Atlassian, and Wix are also part of the curriculum.
The in-person component is called AI Academies. OpenAI plans to hold these events across the United States, bringing local business owners together for guided instruction, hands-on exercises, and peer support. The model is based on last year's Small Business AI Jams, where 78% of participants built a functional AI workflow in a single day and 42% reported saving more than five hours per week.
New guides, customer stories, and short-form videos are being published to help business owners get started with ChatGPT Work in minutes. The content includes specific prompts and examples tailored to common small business scenarios, from converting voice notes into Slack messages to generating market trend reports and developing training presentations from customer reviews.
The program also features a curated list of partner integrations designed to streamline common workflows. These include connections to Dropbox for file management, Shopify for e-commerce, Intuit for accounting, and Slack for team communication. The integrations are built for accuracy and efficiency, with exclusive promotions to lower the barrier to entry.
Central to the initiative is ChatGPT Work, an AI agent designed for multi-step tasks and end-to-end project completion. When connected to a business's files and applications, it adapts to individual work styles. OpenAI says the agent is powered by GPT-5.6, its most advanced model, giving small businesses access to enterprise-grade AI technology at an affordable price point.
For OpenAI, the program is a strategic push into a market segment that has been slower to adopt AI than large enterprises. Small business owners often juggle multiple roles with limited resources, making them ideal candidates for AI tools that can act as force multipliers. The challenge has always been education and integration, not demand. By combining training, community, and plug-and-play integrations, OpenAI is betting that it can convert interest into daily usage at a scale that meaningfully expands its business user base.
