Railway Raises $100 Million to Challenge AWS With AI-Native Cloud

San Francisco-based Railway raised $100 million in Series B funding to challenge legacy cloud providers with its AI-native, sub-second deployment platform.

Railway secured $100 million in Series B funding to expand its AI-native cloud infrastructure platform. The company differentiates itself with sub-second deployment speeds and custom data centers, directly challenging traditional hyperscalers. Founder Jake Cooper plans to use the capital to scale global operations and build a go-to-market strategy.

The Bottleneck of Legacy Cloud

Railway, a San Francisco-based cloud platform, announced a $100 million Series B funding round to address the limitations of legacy cloud infrastructure. Founder Jake Cooper highlighted that traditional build-and-deploy cycles take two to three minutes, creating a critical bottleneck as AI coding assistants generate working code in seconds. Railway claims its platform delivers deployments in under one second, keeping pace with AI-generated code.

Vertical Integration and Agentic Speed

Unlike competitors relying on third-party infrastructure, Railway abandoned Google Cloud in 2024 to build its own data centers. This vertical integration allows the company to control the network, compute, and storage layers, enabling fast build loops and pricing that undercuts hyperscalers by roughly 50 percent. Customers report up to an 87 percent cost reduction and a tenfold increase in developer velocity.

Challenging the Hyperscalers

Despite having a team of just 30 employees, Railway processes over 10 million deployments monthly and claims that 31 percent of Fortune 500 companies use its platform. The new capital will fund global data center expansion and the company's first proper go-to-market operation, positioning Railway to scale indefinitely in an era where AI agents require instant, frictionless infrastructure.
